Take our Refund Potential Quiz to see if there is a nice sum of money waiting to be claimed by you!

Answer the following questions – yes or no.

Have you worked in the UK in the past 5 years?

Have you paid Emergency Tax in the UK in the last 5 years?

Have you left the UK before the end of a tax year (6 April to 5 May)?

While <a href="http://www.1stcontact.com"target="_blank"title="Working in the UK" >working in the UK, did you have more than 1 Employer in a tax year?

Have you at any point only worked for part of a tax year?

Have you been on an incorrect tax code at any point in the last 5 years?

Have you at any time had two or more jobs in the UK concurrently?

If you answered yes to 2 or more of the above questions, there’s a good chance you are due a refund!

Call a 1st Contact <a href="http://www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com"target="_blank"title="Tax Refund" >Tax Refund Consultant on 0808 141 5503 and make sure you have the following in order:

Exact information of the companies you have worked for in the previous 5 tax years.

P60s and P45s from these jobs. (If you don’t have these forms from your previous employers, a 1st Contact Tax Refund consultant can help by applying for them on your behalf. Alternatively get a Statement of Earnings from the HR Department of the companies you worked for.)

Your National Insurance Number. (If you don’t have one, you will have to apply for and receive your NI number before you can claim back your overpaid tax, but not to worry – a 1st Contact Consultant can help you with that too.)

We’ll fill out all the necessary documentation over the phone, submit your claim to HMCR and then keep you up to date with your claim process.

Remember that even with our efficient service and direct line to HMCR, it can take a few weeks before you receive your money. So why wait? Apply now and you could have an early Christmas!

The LVCR (Low Value Consignment Relief) tax avoidance loophole will finally be closed this year, putting an end to the multi-million pound Channel Islands industry and an unfathomably long run of exploitation by large online mail order companies, including Play.com, Amazon and HMV.

The LVCR was originally set up in 1984 as a VAT-free threshold on imports of commercial consignments of goods valued at under £18 from outside the EU, in the belief that the admin costs associated with collecting the VAT would be more than the actual VAT collected.

This allowed major companies to move offshore and altogether avoid VAT on low-value (up to £18) items like DVDs, CDs, printer cartridges, memory cards and contact lenses, making it close to impossible for small UK companies selling similar products to compete.

In recent years, LVCR has come under fire for the obvious unfair and damaging economic advantage it gives to retailers based in the Channel Islands, at the expense of local retailers. The UK government is also estimated to have lost around £200 million in VAT revenue annually as a result of these offshore retailers.

The problem was addressed by Chancellor George Osborne in his March Budget, with a promise to lower the threshold from £18 to £15 in November. Merely lowering the threshold was however deemed by many to be a highly insufficient measure and it is believed that the loophole will be closed for good by the end of the year. And while the new laws will no doubt benefit the small retailer, consumers might have to start paying more for items that have – for many years now – been available cheaply via the internet.

With the end of the financial tax year just a few weeks away, 1st contact would like to urge you to check if you are due a UK <a href="http://www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com"target="_blank"title="Tax Refund" >tax refund. The 1st Contact <a href="http://www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com"target="_blank"title="Tax Refunds" >Tax Refunds team is geared up and ready to deal with the numerous claim requests that start pouring in at this time of the year.

To make it a little easier for you, we’ve put together a 3-step system for claiming back your tax.

Because we offer a ‘No refund, No fee’ service, you have nothing to lose, and an average of £850* to gain!

1. ASSESS YOUR ELIGIBILITY

Have you paid Emergency Tax in the last 5 years?

Have you left the UK before the end of a tax year (6 April to 5 May)?

Have you had more than 1 employer in a tax year?

Have you worked for only part of a tax year?

Have you been on an incorrect Tax code at any point in the last 5 years?

Have you had two or more jobs concurrently?

If you answered YES to 1 or more of the above questions, there’s a good chance you are due a refund!

2. PREPARE YOUR DOCUMENTS

This is some of the important information you will need to gather in order to process your claim:

It is vital that you have the exact information of the companies you have worked for in the previous 5 tax years.

You will need to supply P60’s and P45’s from these jobs.

If you don’t have P60’s or P45’s from your previous employers, a 1st Contact Tax Refund Consultant can help you by applying for these on your behalf.

If these cannot be obtained, you will need to obtain a Statement of Earnings from the HR Department of the companies you worked for.

You will need to supply us with your National Insurance number.

If you don’t have a National Insurance number, you will have to apply for and receive your NI number before you can claim back your overpaid tax. A 1st Contact Tax Refunds Consultant can help you with that too!

3. CALL 0808 141 5501

Once you have all or at least most of the relevant documentation required, call 0808 141 5501 and let a friendly and highly experienced consultant guide you through the process and lodge a claim on your behalf.

Your consultant will fill out all the necessary documentation over the phone, submit your claim to HMCR and then keep you up to date with your claim process.

Please note that even with our efficient service and our direct line to HMCR, it can take up to 6 weeks before you get your hands on the pounds due to you. So the sooner you start the process, the sooner you will be on the receiving end of your overpaid tax!

…massive tax coding errors have resulted in around 4.3 million people being due refunds amounting to £1.8 billion…

How it happened:

HMRC last year completed the integration of a new PAYE computer system to help solve the problem of erroneous overpayment by millions of UK workers in preceding years. The system, which has so far cost more than £400 million, issued 23 million tax codes in January of this year, with a huge percentage of them being just plain wrong or wrongly issued. In fact, there should have been around 13 million codes issued, but a glitch in the system meant that people who had had more than one job during the period in question were issued one tax code per job, instead of just the right code, which led to many workers receiving more than one different tax code.

In addition to these 4.3 million cases, there is evidence that between 6 and 9 million people overpaid tax in the 2 years before the new system was installed, bringing the total number of people affected by the series of blunders at HMRC in the past few years to somewhere between 10 and 15 million.

What to do if you suspect you have overpaid:

Start the process of applying for your refund! With so many affected, there are bound to be even more delays than usual at the Inland Revenue office. A 1st Contact <a href="http://www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com"target="_blank"title="Tax Refund" >Tax Refund consultant can make the process as quick and painless as possible by helping you prepare the correct documents and lodging the claim at HMRC on your behalf. Because they work on a ‘no refund – no fee’ policy, you have nothing to lose.

What to do if you receive a letter of demand:

If you happen to be one of the unlucky 1.4 million citizens who receive a P800 letter from Inland Revenue between now and Christmas, you could contest the matter if you think HMRC had the information they needed to correctly calculate your tax, or if you think your employer or pension provider did not use the right code or made any mistake that would make them liable for the shortfall, or if you believe HMRC do not have full and complete records for you and are essentially guessing.

In any of these cases, you could appeal directly to HMRC or you could go via the adjudicator, Judy Clements OBE, who acts as a free and unbiased referee. You can contact her through www.adjudicators.gov.uk.

You can also seek help at http://www.litrg.org.uk, or use their template to write a letter back to HMRC in response to the letter you received.

If you would like to apply for a tax refund, contact the 1st Contact Tax Refund office on 0808 1411 649 or visit the website at www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com and request a call back. With so many millions affected, you are better off paying the small fee to a qualified 1st Contact Tax Refund consultant who will track the progress of your claim on your behalf than spending your valuable time waiting in long queues at HMRC.

Expert Tax, Migration and Financial Services group 1st Contact claims that most individuals in the UK are not aware that they are eligible for a <a href="http://www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com"target="_blank"title="Tax Refund" >Tax Refund. As such 1st Contact has offered 3 key tips that are set to enable individuals to claim the maximum amount of <a href="http://www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com"target="_blank"title="Tax Back" >tax back in a minimal amount of time:

1. File your Tax Return on Time

Your online tax return, plus any tax due, must be sent to HMRC by 31 January of the following year. The following steps can be followed to submit your tax return online:posted

Visit http://www.1stcontact taxrefunds.com and fill out an online application form.

For a Self Assessment Tax Return, you would need to send 1st Contact a statement of earnings, in order to show how much you earned whilst self employed. 1st Contact will also need any P45/P60 docs from any PAYE or full time employment you may have had.

This must be posted to 1st Contact along with the completed claim pack (details can be sourced at www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com). You will also need to provide your UTR (Unique Tax Payers Reference number).

For a CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) Tax Return, 1st Contact will require the following:

Pay slips for the tax year or your statement of earnings from each employer you may have had. If you have had PAYE or permanent employment in the same period, then you will also need to submit your P45’s and P60’s as well.

You can claim expenses for work purposes only, where 1st Contact will need a break down of these expenses, as 1st Contact can claim 10% of your salary as expenses.

Tax Refund Calculator

Tax Calculator.

Late returns will automatically receive a £100 penalty and a second £100 fine applies if you have not filed and paid by 28 February. Any further delays could result in more serious penalties. It is important to note that it is a legal requirement to keep your filed tax return and related information for 6 years, so it is advisable to always keep copies whether on file or electronic copies.

2. Check your Tax Code

Always check with your personnel department, that you are being taxed under, that you have the correct tax code. If you are still unsure, visit the HMRC website, where you fill in your PAYE number and they will direct you to the tax office where you can obtain the correct information. Visit the following link to obtain more info http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc/locator/locator.jsp?type=1

An incorrect tax code is the leading cause of overpaid tax and this occurs when starting or moving work together with paying emergency tax. Use our convenient Tax Refund Calculator and see if you are due a <a href="http://www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com"target="_blank"title="Tax Rebate" >tax rebate or visit www.1stcontact-taxrefunds.com for more information.

3. Check Previous Tax Returns

It is crucial to check for incorrect Tax Codes on previous returns, since you can claim a tax refund as far back as 5 years. 1st Contact offers a no refund no fee policy and will be able to look into this for you. Alternatively, use 1st Contact’s Tax Calculator or feel free to check our tax calculator to find out if you are eligible for a tax rebate.
